SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) developed by Dr. Eli Lebowitz at the Yale Child Study Center is a treatment. It aims to provide parents with tools to validate their child's emotions, and support their children, while learning how to decrease over accommodating their needs. To learn more about if SPACE is right for you, check out their informational website. We provide parent groups where you can learn the strategies provided by SPACE, while making connections with other parents who may have similar experience.
Oftentimes, children are able to more easily make connections with adults, or display skills within a structured setting, but have difficulty generalizing their skills to more naturally occurring situations. With group therapy (2 or more children) children will be in a more natural setting and have to navigate managing anxious feelings, social situations, and problem solving in a dynamic environment. These groups are play based, and will be facilitated by a therapist to ensure therapeutic goals are met, and skills are reinforced. The hope is that children will be able to apply the skills from group sessions into their everyday lives! Please note: groups are not covered by insurance, and may be self-pay, or considered for out-of-network treatment.
